Plantation is a city situated in Broward County, Florida, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city stood at 84,955. It is an integral part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, which was housed by 5,546,635 people as per the 2010 census.

The name of the city has been derived from the previous owner of the place, the Everglades Plantation Company. "The Grass is Greener” is the official motto of Plantation. Due to Hurricane Wilma that occurred on October 24, 2005, Plantation faced extensive damage.

Plantation City Hall formed a backdrop for a part of the film,There's Something About Mary.’’ Mary’s childhood home was filmed just at some distance from City Hall. Plantation Golf Course, though now closed, was the site of the popular Caddyshack pool scene.


According to 2010 census, 37,587 households existed in the city, of which 9.0% were lying vacant. 30.9% were those who had children below the age of 18 living with them. 52.0% comprised of wedded couples living jointly, 11.2% of them had a female householder living without husband, and 33.2% comprised of those having no families. 25.8% of all households were made with individuals and 8.5% of them had somebody staying alone who was of the age 65 or more. In the city, the average family size was 3.02 whereas the average household size stood at 2.48.

The population of the city, as of 2000, was spread out with 23.1% aging below 18, 7.1% belonged to age group 18-24, 32.0% belonged to age group 25-44, 24.7% belonged to age group 45-64, and 13.1% were those aging 65 or more. The median age in the city was 38 years. For every 100 females there existed 90.6 males. For every 100 females more than the age of 18 and above, there existed 86.2 males.

As per the estimate of 2007, the median income for a household in Plantation stood at $66,135 and median income of a family was $80,434. Males earned a median income of $44,838 against $32,360 earned by females. The city had a per capita income of $28,250. Around 4.3% of families, which was 6.4% of the populace, were under the poverty line. This included 6.1% of those below the age of 18 and 6.7% were of age 65 and more.

As per 2000 census, 78.00% of the population spoke English as their first language. Spanish was spoken by 13.00%, French Creole by 2.24%, and French by 1.30%. People speaking Hebrew comprised of 0.72%. Portuguese speakers were 0.71%, percentage of people speaking Italian was at 0.58%, and German at 0.54%. Arabic was used as the mother tongue by 0.46% of all residents.
