Hollywood, the principal city of South Florida metropolitan area, is based in Broward County, Florida, United States. As per the census of year 2010, it was populated with 140,768 citizens. It was established in 1925. Through 1950s and 1960s it experienced tremendous growth and today it is the twelfth largest city in Florida. According to the 2010 census, it is a home of 5,564,635 denizens.


As of year 2000, out of 59,763 households 24.9% were those who had children below the age of eighteen residing with them, 41.5% consisted of married couples staying together, 11.9% of them were female householder living without husband, and 42.2% consisted of non-families. 34.4% were individual households with 13.1% had somebody living alone who was of age 65 or more. 2.31 was the average household size while the average family size reached at 3.00.

As per the age demographic of the city, there exists mixed population. Of this 21.3% are under the age of 18, 7.0% belonged to age group 18-24, 31.3% belong to 45-64, and 17.3% were of the age 65 or more. Median age stood at 39 years. For every 100 females, there existed 94.1 makes. For every 100 women who were age of 18 and above, there existed 90.9 men.

In the city, the household median income stood at $40,714 whereas the median income for a family was $55,849. Males earned a median income of $33,102 against $21,237 earned by females. The per capita income for the city of Hollywood was $22,097. Nearly 9.9% of families and 13.2% of the total population was lying below the poverty line. This figure also included 18.1% of those individuals who were under the age of 18 and 11.8% consisted of people of age 65 and more.

In 2000, those speaking English as their first language consisted of 66.94% of residents. Spanish was spoken by 21.62% whereas French was spoken by 2.06% and French Creole was spoken by 1.32%. Italian speaking people consisted of 1.12%, Romanian was 0.91%, Hebrew at 0.88%, Portuguese 0.84%, and 0.72% of the population spoke German as their mother tongue.

Hollywood is an interesting amalgamation of communities and people. It ranks 75 in the percentage of Cuban population residing in the city which is about 4.23% of the total population while it ranks 65 in the percentage of Columbian population from US based in the city which is a total of 2.26% of the city’s population. Interestingly the Peruvian residents of US make up for 1.05% of the city’s population which is the 75th highest percentage of Peruvian population in any city of US. The number of Romanian residents is about 1.1% of total population, which is about 20th highest percentage of Romanian residents across US.
